CCS High Schools Volley
for a Cure for Breast Cancer

In October 2013 at Jay M. Robinson High School, Cabarrus County Schools hosted its 6th annual “King of the Court” volleyball tournament, where 11th and 12th grade boys from CCS high schools and throughout the county, competed and raised money for local breast cancer support agencies. Last year’s tournament raised $10,000. Students from the participating schools and CCS Superintendent Barry Shepherd presented Marion Mozingo, development director for Northeast Foundation, with a check on January 22, 2014.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
Gets Our Support!

During the spring, CCS staff, students and families have thrown their support and sweat behind the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF.org), participating in JDRF’s Walk To Cure Diabetes event. Over the past 10 years, CCS students and staff have held bake sales, silent auctions, hotdog lunches and BBQ dinners to raise funds for JDRF. To date, we have raised nearly $145,000 ($144,541.61 to be exact) to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes, a disease that adversely affects approximately 3 million Americans according to JDRF.

Employees UNITE to Support the United Way

At the end of 2013, we completed our annual Employee Giving Campaign to benefit United Way of Central Carolinas. Our employees generously donated more than $27,000 to the 2013 campaign! Since 2008 we have participated as a school system and have collectively donated more than $150,000 to United Way.

Through United Way, CCS is able to unite and collectively support the 24 local agencies that offer health and human services intended to:

  • Enrich the lives of children and adults through educational and outreach opportunities
  • Assist members of the community in times of crisis and dire circumstances
  • Support those who need assistance navigating their daily lives or those who require ongoing mental health treatment
